Though it\u2019s uncertain exactly when this particular tradition began, negative superstitions have swirled around the number 13 for centuries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Why is Friday the 13th Unlucky?<\/h2>\n

The superstition surrounding this day may have arisen in the Middle Ages<\/a>, \u201coriginating from the story of Jesus\u2019 last supper<\/a> and crucifixion<\/a>\u201d in which there were 13 individuals present in the Upper Room<\/a> on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday<\/a>, the night before his death on Good Friday<\/a>.[3]<\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/a><\/sup>While there is evidence of both Friday<\/a>[5]<\/a><\/sup> and the number 13 being considered unlucky, there is no record of the two items being referred to as especially unlucky in conjunction before the 19th century.[<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
